Video Rooms are great for small virtual events and casual hangouts. You can have up to 16 people in a Video Room at one time. Unlike traditional video calls, video rooms on BFF are 'always on' so that anyone can drop in and out at any time.
Video Room overview
In a Video Room, you can:
- See who’s already in the call before joining by checking the avatars next to the room name in the rooms list
- Choose to turn your video on or off—if your video is off, your profile photo will appear in your tile
- Use the controls at the bottom of the screen to share your screen, turn your video on or off, mute or unmute yourself, or leave the call
- View who’s currently connected in the room members list and ping additional members to invite them to join
Joining a Video Room
To join a Video Room:
- Tap the room name in the rooms list
- Press ‘Connect’
You’ll join the call muted with your video off. Use the controls at the bottom of the screen to unmute yourself or turn your video on when you’re ready.
Presence
When viewing a group’s side menu, you can see when other members are connected to a video room—feel free to pop in and say hi!
Notifying members to join you
Want to hang out with others? Jump into a video room and ping people to join you:
- Enter a video room and tap ‘Connect’
- Tap the’ Invite’ icon in the top-right corner
- You’ll see a list of room members—tap ‘Ping’ next to anyone you’d like to invite
They’ll receive a push notification that says “[Your Name] wants to hang out” and can tap it to join you. You can also tap ‘Ping Everyone’ at the bottom of the list to notify all room members at once.
Troubleshooting Video Rooms
I can't hear anyone
- Check to make sure you're on the latest version of BFF
- Check to make sure that your device's audio is on (not muted) and that you don't have headphones connected
- Check to make sure that the other person/people aren't on mute
- If neither of these work, contact our Support team, and we'll look into it
I can't see anyone
- Check to make sure you're on the latest version of BFF
- Check to make sure the other person's camera is on
People can't see me
- Check to make sure you're on the latest version of BFF
- Check the control panel at the bottom of your screen to make sure your video isn't off
- Check your device’s settings to make sure you've given BFF access to your camera (you may have "Denied" permission the first time you used BFF)
People can't hear me
- Check to make sure you're on the latest version of BFF

- Check your device’s settings to make sure you've given BFF access to your microphone (you may have "Denied" permission the first time you used BFF)
