We’ve designed BFF to give you granular control over what you’re notified about.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to allow notifications. If you chose “Don’t Allow” initially but now want to turn notifications on, go into your device’s settings and enable notifications for BFF.
DMs and reactions notifications
- Open the Me tab
- Tap the Settings icon in the top right, and choose Notifications.
- From here, you can turn DM notifications on or off and decide whether to get alerts for reactions in DMs. You can also manage notifications for your groups from this screen.
Group notifications
For each group, you can choose how much you want to hear:
- All notifications works well for smaller groups.
- Only mentions is best for busier groups.
- Nothing keeps things quiet.
You can also switch on optional alerts, such as new member requests (for admins and approvers), new members joining, replies to your messages or posts (including RSVPs to events you created), and significant group updates.
You can change these settings in two places.
From Account settings:
- Go to Me
- Tap Settings
- Tap Notifications and select a group.
Or, from inside a group:
- Open the three-dot menu
- Tap Settings
- Tap Notifications and make your changes there.
Mute a room
If a single room is too noisy, you can mute it:
- Open the room
- Tap the room name at the top, and tap Mute.
- The room will move to the bottom of your list, and you won’t receive push notifications from it.
Leave a room
If a room is no longer for you, you can leave it.
- Open the room
- Tap the room name at the top
- Select Leave room, then confirm.
Troubleshooting
- If you’re not getting any notifications, make sure you’re using the latest version of BFF and that notifications are allowed in your device settings.
- If you get notifications for regular messages but not for replies, update the app and turn on “Notify me when someone replies to my messages” in the group’s notification settings. If things still don’t look right, restart the app and check your device’s Focus or Do Not Disturb settings.
- If your app settings look correct but nothing is coming through, double-check notification permissions for BFF in your device settings and review any Focus schedules that might be silencing alerts.
