To start making friendships on BFF, you'll need to create a BFF account.
To minimize bots and spam, all accounts on BFF are tied to a real phone number.
Phone numbers are only used for verification purposes—other BFF members will not be able to see your phone number.
To get started:
1. Download the BFF app
2. Verify your phone number
- Enter your number (make sure the country code is correct).
- We’ll text you a 6-digit code. Enter it in the app to continue.
- Not receiving a code? Tap resend and wait a few minutes. If it still doesn’t arrive, reach out to Support.
3. Add your details
- Name: We ask for your full name for safety. Don’t worry—other members will only ever see your first name and last initial.
- Birthday: Add your birthdate so we can calculate your age. Other members only see your age, never your full birthday. You can choose to hide your age later in your profile settings.
- Location: Helps us suggest people nearby so you can connect locally.
- Gender & Pronouns: Share your gender if you’d like, and choose to display it or keep it private. You can also list pronouns alongside your gender or on their own.
4. Upload photos
- You'll need to add at least 2 photos to get started.
- Your first photo must clearly show you—this helps build trust and safety.
5. Verify with a selfie
- Complete quick selfie verification to confirm you’re a real person.
- This boosts trust and helps keep the community safe.
6. Personalize your profile
- Interests: Add up to 10 interests. These could be about your ideal weekend, shows you’re into, music you’re listening to, or things you’d like to do with new friends.
- Bio: Write a short blurb that introduces you. Keep it light and personal—you’ll be able to add social links later in your profile.
Things to know:
- When you sign up for BFF, we ask for your phone number to help keep bots out and to make the app a safer, more accountable space. Your number will never be visible to other members and will not be shared or sold to any third party. At the moment, we’re unable to support VoIP numbers such as Google Voice, we’re really sorry for any inconvenience this causes.
- Currently, accounts on BFF function like iMessage—they're tied to your phone number and aren't protected by a separate password. You can however, add an email address for additional security and as a way to recover your account if you lose access to it.
- Your birthday is private and never shown or shared with other members. Your age is shown on your profile and can be seen by those in People Discovery and members you are in groups with. If you would like to hide your age, you can do so from Account Settings.
- If you have entered your age incorrectly, please reach out to our Support team for help with updating it.
- To create an account, you must be 18 or older (see full requirements here).
